When choosing a physician or facility for any type of surgery, it is important to choose a facility with experience and an outstanding track record. The NIX Weight Loss Surgery Center and the co-medical directors, Gerardo E. Cárcamo, M.D. and J. Keith Wright, M.D.*, of the Center have been awarded the Center of Excellence designation by the Surgical Review Corporation under the guidance of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). This means we must have extensive experience and be willing to undergo rigorous reporting requirements to insure the best outcomes with minimal complications. As Dr. Neil Hutcher, FACS, Chairman-elect, Board of Directors of ASMBS, says, “The Center of Excellence provision is important. Evidence shows that the best outcomes and the fewest complications occur in centers with the most experience.”

Specialization

Studies have shown the LAP-BAND AP laparoscopic surgical weight loss procedure to be safer than the gastric by-pass. The only procedure we perform at NIX Weight Loss Surgery Center is the LAP-BAND AP, and because we have performed hundreds of these procedures, the surgeons, operating room staff and nurses have extensive experience to help ensure minimal complications.

Support

From your very first visit to post surgery, the NIX Weight Loss team is here for your support. Each patient is assigned a LAP-BAND advocate at our Diagnostic Assessment Center on the very first visit. Your LAP-BAND advocate will help guide you through the pre-operative requirements of weight loss surgery. At this time, you may also meet our Bariatric Nurse Manager who will answer any questions you may have including what to expect before, during and after the surgery. The Bariatric Nurse Manager is available to you for any patient concerns. Support after the surgery is just as important in helping you achieve your weight loss goals. The NIX Weight loss Center is proud to provide monthly support group meetings as well as on-line support groups.
